BIO
Kris focuses on accountable and transparent government through compliance with open meeting and public record laws as well as sound and accessible operational policies. He specifically serves libraries of all types by advising on governance, operations, and legal issues. In addition to his work with JMG, he is the Director of Library Learning Hub at Helena College. Kris previously worked with K-12 public school leaders as an attorney with the Montana School Boards Association. Before starting his law practice, he served as a law clerk in the chambers of the Honorable Sam E. Haddon in the United States District Court for the District of Montana. Prior to law school, Kris worked as the Governor’s K-12 Education Policy Advisor and Deputy Communications Director in the administration of Governor Judy Martz. He serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Trust for Montana Libraries and is a member of the Montana Library Association Intellectual Freedom and Government Affairs Committees. Kris was raised in Richland County and graduated from Sidney High School.
